Current Club: Sporting Lisbon Arsenal have needed a dependable, able defensive midfielder since Cesc Fabregas went home to Barcelona to sit on the bench and dream of a move to Chelsea: Abou Diaby has proven too injured, Jack Wilshere isn't up to the defensive side of the role and both Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta can both be improved on. With that in mind, the link to Sporting Lisbon and Portugal's impressive, athletic defensive midfielder William Carvalho have been very welcome among Arsenal fans, particularly as it seems signing him would be one in the eye for great rivals Man Utd, who were looking at him earlier in the summer. He is one of his country's greatest prospects, and though Portugal crashed and burned at the World Cup, if he continues to progress as he has at Sporting, the future is at least somewhat bright that Cristiano Ronaldo will have some team-mates worthy of passing to soon. And Arsene Wenger could well be the right man to help that progression along, if the rumours gathering pace are anything to go by. Will He Sign? Yes, and soon.
