All Newcastle's South Americans Ranked From Worst To Best

5. Clarence Acuna (Chile)

Newcastle United: 2000-03 Position: Midfielder Nationality: Chilean Premier League Appearances: 46 Premier League Goals: 6 International Caps (Goals): 60 (3) Few midfielders have ever been as willing to put in a shift for Newcastle as Clarence Acuna was. With Manchester United and Parma sniffing around the Chilean midfielder in 2000, Sir Bobby Robson convinced Acuna to move to St James' Park instead in a £900,000 deal. Although he was not always first choice, Acuna was a valued member of Robson's squad and helped the Magpies qualify for the Champions League. The 60-cap international made 46 Premier League appearances for Newcastle between 2000 and 2003, scoring on six occasions (including the BBC's "Goal of the Week" against Leeds United in December 2000), before he was allowed to leave for Rosario Central.
