Arsenal: 5 Reasons The Gunners Will Win The FA Cup

3. Defensive Capabilities

The Arsenal defence in recent years has come under scrutiny and was previously identified as the weak point in the team, but this season, things are much different. Bacary Sagna has been an unsung hero of the much heralded back four this season and he will be a huge loss if he does decide not to sign a new contract with the North London club. Alongside him, in the centre, Koscielny and Mertesaker have formed a formidable partnership that has left opposition strikers trembling in their wake. With Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs, Arsenal are blessed with two left-backs who are both capable of competing at the highest level, and the value of competition is that the Spaniard presents young Gibbs with a battle for a starting spot, which is key to his development. Wojciech Szczesny has also gone from strength to strength this season and has proven that he can be Arsenal's goalkeeper for years to come, when it was previously thought he may not be good enough. He's made match winning saves time and time again, helping Arsenal pick up valuable points, and it's fair to say that he's proving himself to be Arsenal's best keeper since Jens Lehmann. On top of this, Arsenal still have Thomas Vermaelen - the club captain - who has been kept out of the side by the partnership of Mertesaker and Koscielny but who can do the job when asked.
