Arsenal Transfer News: Wenger Makes £6.5 Million Bid For Czech Fullback
Arsene Wenger is to make a bid for Czech Republic right-back Theodor Gebre Selassie
Caughtoffside.com are reporting that Arsene Wenger is to make a bid for Czech Republic right-back Theodor Gebre Selassie. The pacey attacking fullback has been one of the stand out performers of the Czechs Euro campaign so far and would be a brilliant addition to the Arsenal squad for next season. The 25-year-old has played for the Czech Republic at youth level and broke into the senior set-up last year. He became the first ever black player to represent the Czech Republic and his rapid rise to fame continued with scintillating form at Euro 2012. Arsene Wenger has reportedly been tracking Gebre Selassie throughout the season but has ultimately been convinced by his displays at Euro 2012, where he has helped the Czech Republic through to face Portugal with solid defensive work and an assist against Greece. Apparently, Wenger has consulted Czech captain Tomas Rosicky, who recommended Gebre Selassie to him. As a Czech Arsenal fan, Im very excited by this news as Ive watched him before for his club side Slovan Liberec who won the Czech league last season. Hes a reliable defender who also loves to get forward and support the attack. He isnt yet on the level of Bacary Sagna, but I would say hes definitely faster and probably has a better cross. At 25, he will keep on improving as well. I could see him as becoming a Koscielny-type player who never gives up and gives his best for the team. Looking at our current options, Id say that Gebre Selassie is streets ahead of Carl Jenkinson and Johan Djourou and could slot into the side straight away. The deal is supposed to be in the region of 6.5 million, and I cant see Slovan Liberec forcing him to stay in the Czech league against his will. Gunners better hope this deal is really going to go through because with Gebre Selassie, wed be a big step closer to sorting our defence out; and maybe, just maybe have enough in the tank to push for silverware next season.
