8. Robin Van Persie
Another former Arsenal striker who has been transformed from a figure of adulation to one of hate amongst Arsenal fans is of course Robin Van Persie. Wenger signed the volatile young Dutchman for £2.75 million from Feyenoord in 2004 and although initially he was blighted with injuries, he eventually went on to become club captain and almost single handedly guided Arsenal to third in the league last season. Van Persie is Arsenal's 8th all time top scorer with 132 goals in 277 games for the club placing him above the likes of Dennis Bergkamp and David Jack. A £24 million move to Manchester United incurred the wrath of the Arsenal faithful but perhaps when the red mist has subsided they will remember the contribution he made to the club in his 8 year spell.
