Arsenal Transfers: 5 Striker Alternatives To Wayne Rooney

2. Edinson Cavani

Instead, perhaps Wenger could put his £70 million to good use and sign a "marquee player" this summer, someone of the ilk of Rooney but perhaps even better, like Napoli's prolific Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan hitman finished last season as the top goalscorer in Serie A ahead of the likes of Stephan El Shaarawy and Antonio Di Natale with 29 strikes, and 38 in 43 overall appearances for the Italians. And his remarkable goal-scoring heroics have helped put him on the radar for a number of top Premier League sides, with Manchester City and Europa League champions Chelsea also interested. Cavani is the type of player who could easily get you 30+ goals a season - a feat he has managed in all three of his seasons in Naples since his move from Palermo in 2010 - and would be a perfect replacement to Robin van Persie who, let's face it, has never been adequately replaced by Wenger since his move to Man United last summer.
