Arsenal Transfers: 5 Striker Alternatives To Wayne Rooney

1. Gonzalo Higuain

Higuain The unhappy Real Madrid star has made clear his intentions to quit the Spanish capital this summer and the Gunners have made contact with the player's agent as they look to push the deal through. In what would be a club-record signing, Higuain could move to the Emirates for £20 million - however Real are apparently holding out for £25 million. Whatever the case, it's not like Wenger cannot afford said fees given his previously discussed transfer "warchest" and any excuses he may proffer that he is being "priced out of a move" must be treated with scepticism. The Argentine scored 16 La Liga goals last season and 19 in 44 overall appearances for the Spanish giants, while the season before that he was even more prolific, managing 22 La Liga goals and 26 in 54 appearances. But he is apparently deemed surplus to requirements now and will be allowed to leave - if the right offer comes in. And Wenger can no longer, and must no longer be allowed to use the excuse that the top players in the game are beyond his financial reach.
