Chelsea Transfers: 5 Questions That Mourinho Must Address This Summer

4. Will Kurt Zouma Be Loaned Out For First-Team Football?

Having arrived from St. Etienne on deadline day, Frenchman Kurt Zouma is another sign of Chelsea building for the future. At just 19, it's hard to imagine that he will walk into the first tea next year, no matter how highly rated he might be, so you have to wonder whether Chelsea will send him out on loan again. Zouma is set to see out the rest of the season with St. Etienne and Jose Mourinho hinted openly when he signed that he would assess the player in the summer to see whether he would stay at Stamford Bridge or if he would see more playing time at another club on loan. Having established himself in the starting eleven at St. Etienne, he would need to continue getting regular first-team minutes in order to progress his development, and sitting him on the Chelsea bench (or even worse outside of the first team match day squad) would seem counter-productive. That, however, may all depend on the contract situation discussed in the previous point: should veteran defenders Terry and Cole get offered new deals by Chelsea, then that could well make up the mind of Jose Mourinho. And, with Chelsea affiliated to Vitesse Arnhem of the Dutch league, Zouma would surely be welcomed by them for next season. However, it could also be considered that the signing of Zouma could signal the end of John Terry's career at Chelsea. Given the drawn out wait that the former England skipper is having to endure in regards to a new deal, it is little wonder why it is being strongly seen as a possibility in the summer.
