7. Mark Schwarzer
Following the departure of Ross Turnbull to Doncaster Rovers, the Blues only had veteran Henrique Hilário and rookie Jamal Blackman as back-up to Petr ech in goal until the arrival on a free contract of Mark Schwarzer. The 40-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge as a free agent after rejecting a contract extension with Fulham and, though his experience will be beneficial to Jose Mourinho this season, you have to wonder how much of a look-in the Australia international is going to get. Given the superb form of Cech of late, you can't help but get the feeling that Schwarzer is going to be used in a stop-gap role and as an emergency in case the former picks up an injury. Expect the former Middlesbrough man to play predominantly in the Capital One Cup as a fringe player this season, a new position which makes you wonder why he'd want to give up first-team football at Craven Cottage.
