Chelsea Transfers: Rating Mourinho's 10 Biggest Deals Of The Summer

1. Oriol Romeu, Victor Moses And Other Loans

Chelsea have such a huge number of players on loan right now that it isn't really practical to cover them all, so we're just going to be looking at the most high profile players here. Perhaps the most notable is Oriol Romeu, who surprisingly signed a new contract to keep him at the club until 2017 even though many fans expected him to leave permanently. He got semi-regular football on loan at Valencia last season but also made a number of errors in big games. He's good on the ball, more mobile than the likes of John Obi Mikel and at 6'0 tall can also fill in at centre back, but has some serious work to do on his concentration if he's to ever make it at Chelsea. Personally, I don't see it happening. The Bundesliga could be a good move for him though, so I'll give the move a 6/10. Nigerian winger Victor Moses recently confirmed his loan move to Stoke following a disappointing campaign mostly spent on the bench at Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool. He's got undeniable talent and gave a solid if unremarkable account of himself at the World Cup this summer, but needs to work on his consistency and end product. The only benefit to Chelsea would've been his homegrown status, but otherwise the club has far too many superior alternatives for him to ever stand a chance of getting on the field in any serious capacity. He'll probably get regular football at Stoke and a good run of form could push his price up next summer, so let's again say 6/10. Looking to less well-known players, Tomas Kalas barely played at Chelsea last season despite showing his talent when making his first start in a crunch game against Liverpool. Despite that, Mourinho opted not to keep him around and sent him to recently promoted 1. FC Koln in Germany. It shouldn't be hard for him to keep his place in the team and the Bundesliga will be a good step up from his previous experience with Vitesse in the Eredivisie, so it's ultimately a positive move (7/10). Nigerian international Kenneth Omeruo's return to Middlesbrough seems like treading water on the other hand, as while he'll benefit from the stability of a second year at the club, he's already well above Championship level and started every game for Nigeria at this summer's World Cup. That's a 5/10. Thorgan Hazard, Eden's brother, joins Kalas in the Bundesliga, at Gladbach this time, which will be a test for him even if he's not good enough to make it at Chelsea (6/10). The Bundesliga also hosts Lucas Piazon at Frankfurt, who is in much the same situation as T. Hazard so assume the same score. 18 year old Bertrand Traore gets a second year at Vitesse, which is the right move for a phenomenal prospect in need of stability and regular football (9/10). Expect big things from him in future. Christian Atsu's move to Everton is a fair reflection of his terrific form in Holland last year and it'll be interesting to see how he does (8/10), though Ryan Bertrand's move to Southampton feels more like an extended trial for a move next summer (5/10). Finally, promising new signing Mario Pasalic gets to test his skill with Elche in Spain's La Liga, where a good season could certainly see him get an early call-up to the Croatian national team (7/10).
