Everton vs Chelsea: 5 Key Battles

3. Mirallas v Cole

Belgian Kevin Mirallas goes up against Ashley Cole in a reverse of the battle between Eden Hazard and Gareth Barry. Exciting winger Mirallas was a constant outlet for Everton last season under David Moyes and Ashley Cole, despite his years of experience, could struggle against the forward. Kevin Mirallas is one of my favourite wingers in the Premiership right now and it's easy to understand why. The fast Belgian has it all when it comes to running at defenders. He's comfortable with the ball at his feet which makes it difficult for a defender to decide which way to try and force him to go. If you send him inside, he's likely to even find a pass or have a long shot - something he's particularly good at. If you send him outside, he's got a demon of a right foot that could provide a pinpoint cross for the head of Nikica Jelavic. Ashley Cole proved during the last two England internationals that he definitely hasn't lost his touch though. It's no secret that Ashley Cole likes to attack, in fact, he is definitely one of the best left-backs in the world, he can attack, he can defend- everything a full-back is necessary for. Unfortunately, he has a reputation as a bit of a dirty player and one mistimed challenge could see the end of his game. On occasion, treads a fine line between exquisite and reckless. Mirallas is a really talented winger and it is no secret that he has the resources to really harm an opposition defence, unfortunately for him, Ashley Cole is one of the most consistent defenders in the Premiership.
