Everton vs Chelsea: 5 Key Battles

2. Jelavic v Cahill

Nikica Jelavic will come up against what could be England's best centre-back in Gary Cahill. His performances in the recent England internationals were a testament to Roy Hodgson's faith in him as one of England's first choice centre-back pairing. Jelavic has struggled with a dip in form recently and the Croatian striker still seems to be struggling. Nikica Jelavic scored just 7 goals last season in the 37 league games he played under David Moyes. However, he must be showing something in training to warrant his inclusion in the squad by new manager Roberto Martinez, especially with Arouna Kone waiting in the wings. Jelavic is only likely to start due to the fact that new signing Romelu Lukaku isn't allowed to play against his parent club, but the 6 foot 2 inch striker is always likely to be an aerial threat. Gary Cahill was by far my man of the match for England against Ukraine on Tuesday, keeping a clean sheet against the exciting attacking play of the Ukraine forwards, who had put 9 past San Marino just 4 days earlier. Cahill is an impressive aerial player in both his own box and the opposition's and that could vitally important in this game between two of England's best sides. Whilst Jelavic hasn't been in the best of form recently, Cahill will have to be wary of the striker both in the air and on the floor as a single moment of brilliance could be the difference between the two sides.
