Everton vs Chelsea: 5 Key Battles

1. Barkley v Lampard

This a metaphorical battle of The Apprentice v The Master. Four days after Ross Barkley made his England debut, Frank Lampard earned his 100th England cap - joining an elite club of just 8 English centurions. This fight of Young v Old in the centre of the park could prove to be the most important on the list, as they say, the game is won and lost in the engine room. Ross Barkley has made an impressive start to the new Premier League season and after his great goal on the opening day of the campaign, he has helped Everton to two consecutive clean sheets, subsequently earning his England call-up and proving his worth to both Roy Hodgson and Roberto Martinez. Barkley has been a long time in the making and following consecutive successful loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday and then Leeds United, it was only a matter of time before he broke into the first team. What is there to say about Frank Lampard? One of the best English midfielders ever and Chelsea's all-time top goalscorer needs no introduction at all. Known for his work-rate, passing range and goalscoring capabilities, Lampard is likely to make life incredibly hard for 19-year old Ross Barkley. An exquisite reader of the game, Lampard has a habit of running the midfield with his slick passes and ability to spread the play. Lampard is a role model to be learned from and if Barkley can stifle him, Everton could be in line for an impressive victory. However, in high spirits following his 100th England cap, I wouldn't be too surprised if Lampard was to score against Everton on Saturday.
