Fernando Torres and Liverpool: 10 Reasons We're Still Talking About It

9. If Form Is Temporary, Was Torres Ever Class

ferndna Some have unkindly said that Torres achieved just one top quality season in his career - 07/08 and that his relative mediocrity has since come to the fore. Chelsea fans have seen the biggest striking flop since Andrei Shevchenko embarrassed himself in blue and with injuries plaguing a large portion of his time at Liverpool, it has been a long time since anyone has seen the best of FT9. Of course until his days in blue one thing Torres never failed to do was create chances and polish them off with aplomb. So, yes, Torres was class and maybe behind the man who struggles at Chelsea, is the player we never wanted to watch walk away from Anfield.

10. Obsession

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8slpq8g_Fqk Liverpool fans have a propensity for obsession, anyone remember the Michael Owen saga? The clean 50-50 split between those chanting "Where were you in Istanbul?" to those who wanted the diminutive number 10 to come home from Real Madrid seems to have occurred again. The desire to see Torres return stems from seeing good times slip into bad and level out at mediocre. First we asked Kenny and Andy to save us, they couldn't before the axe fell on them and now we have to hope that Brendan Rodgers knows what he is doing, which is an article of its own. We remember a time before this nightmare when Liverpool were on the up, with one of the greatest strikers in our history banging in the goals for fun. Can we ever forget those moments of glory that Torres gave us? No. Should we try to? No. Should we accept that these things have had their time? Probably. Whether he came back and banged in the goals for fun, there are those who will never forgive what has happened and what has been said. It is a twisted and sorry tale that has sent El Nino from hero to pantomime villain, with many emotional twists and turns along the way. As a passionate Liverpool fan I don't have the answer as to whether he should or even could ever return to Liverpool, but perhaps this article has helped someone to understand why it is that we still love and hate our former hero. Because we Liverpool fans both dreamers, living in a glorious past and optimists about a glorious future, we will always have our little obsessions, our little fantasies after all, this is football and anything could happen. When the past looked so good, could it not also form part of our future? So, what do you think? Any space for El Nino or should we accept that the Kid will never lace his boots for the Kop again? Why not let us know in the comments below.
