Liverpool Fans' 8 Most Disliked Players Of The Modern Era

8. Charles Itandje

Not too many non-Liverpool fans would be aware of Charles Itandje whatsoever, while even some Reds supporters may even look a little stumped if you mentioned his name to them. That's understandable in many ways. Itandje moved to Anfield from Lens in 2007, and for much of his Liverpool career the Frenchman was very much an unnoticed backup goalkeeper to Pepe Reina. He made seven appearances in his first season at the club, three in the League Cup and four in the FA Cup, and never threatened to become a first-team regular. He didn't appear once throughout 2008/09, but it was in April 2009 that Itandje went from being an understated, relatively unknown member of the squad to extremely unpopular. During a memorial service at Anfield, which was mourning 20 years since the tragic Hillsborough disaster, complaints were made about his behavior, with some claiming he was seen laughing and joking throughout the service, and showing absolutely no respect. This went down unbelievably badly on Merseyside, understandably, and despite his apologies Itandje was suspended by the club for 14 days. He never played for Liverpool again, and eventually left for good in 2011, joining Greek side Atromitos.
