De Bruyne is one of the examples of Chelsea's transfer policy coming back to bite them. In recent times, the London club have signed a countless amount of talented youngsters and sent them out on loan to increase their value, before selling them on for a gigantic profit.

The 23-year old has proven this season, however, that he was one of the 'prospects' Chelsea really shouldn't have let go, having bagged 13 goals and registered 20 - yes 20 - assists, in his first year at Wolfsburg. The young Belgian typically operates in any of the the traditional three slots behind the striker, roaming around the pitch to get on the ball at any given opportunity, and could also operate in a 'false 9' role, such is his outstanding technical ability on movement off the ball. De Bruyne has been incredible for Wolfsburg this year and spearheads the vote to be included in the Bundesliga team of the season - an impressive feat when you consider Bayern's prodigious dominance throughout the campaign. With the potential Sterling windfall, Liverpool would be able to afford, at the very least, to launch an audacious bid for the classy Wolfsburg attacker, and after the way he was treated during his time as Stamford Bridge, it would be easy to imagine how much De Bruyne would love to come back and haunt those who wrote him off at the club.
