Liverpool Transfers: 5 Best & 5 Worst Ever January Deals

1. Andy Carroll

Finally we have not just the worst January signing made by Liverpool, but possibly the worst January signing made by any team, ever. This may sound like hyperbole but the £35 million splashed out by Liverpool on Andy Carroll €“ the transfer record for a British player €“ is surely one of the daftest pieces of business ever seen. Carroll had scored just 14 Premier League goals for his side Newcastle and although he did look like a player with real potential €“ and in fact still does - a club record transfer fee could never be justified. The 24-year-old has managed just 11 goals in 58 games for Liverpool during a spell which has been hampered by injury and a number of poor performances. He is currently on loan at West Ham where he has mustered two goals in 12 and it will be a miracle if the Red€™s ever manage to recoup even half of what they paid for their most expensive mistake ever.
