6. Liverpool 1-0 Chelsea (2005)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOR_tlMkKyA The Reds' epic semi-final second-leg clash with Chelsea back in 2005 has to go down as one of the most nerve-wracking in the history of the club, but it ended with scenes of unbridled joy. Mourinho's men had just been crowned Premier League champions, and there was a real arrogance about them. They were clearly confident of progressing, despite a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge in the first-leg. The game couldn't have got off to a more unforgettable start. Milan Baros was played in expertly by Gerrard, before being clattered by Petr Cech inside the area. The referee decided to play an advantage though, as the ball fell to Luis Garcia. The Spaniard poked the ball towards goal, and the ball was adjudged to have just crossed the line. The Chelsea players protested that it hadn't gone in, and we will never know the answer. People often forget that Cech would have been sent-off and Liverpool would have been awarded a penalty though, so the Blues actually benefited from the goal being given. From that point on it was simply all Chelsea. The game went by horrifically slowly, and the visitors created constant chances. They just couldn't find a way through though. In the dying seconds the ball felt to Eidur Gudjohnsen, and his volleyed effort across goal somehow avoided everyone and missed the target by inches. The final whistle went, and Liverpool had reached the final against all odds. It was an epic achievement, after one of the most incredible 90 minutes of football Anfield has ever witnessed.
