Man City: 5 Key Points From Newcastle Victory

4. The New Signings Look The Part

It's no secret that City lacked width last season. This was remedied with the signing of Jesus Navas from cash-strapped Sevilla for just £14.9 million, and what a coup that looks to be. The Spaniard was a constant threat throughout and combined a quick turn of pace with excellent positional skills. All that his team-mates had to do was play a ball down the right and 9 times out of 10, he'd be on the end of it. However, what impressed me most was how intelligent his crosses were. Fernandinho is going to have to do a lot to repay the apparent £30 million investment in him but if he continues to put in resolute performances like that, then he's well on his way. City have needed a terrier in midfield ever since De Jong left and Fernandinho seems to be that man. He has the tenacity of the Dutchman, but with a much better passing range. Alvaro Negredo only made a late cameo appearance in place of David Silva, but still managed to find the net, even if the goal was incorrectly chalked off for offside. There's surely more to come from him this season.
