Man City Transfers: 5 Potential Replacements For Yaya Toure
3. Javi Martinez
Perhaps a more realistic option is Bayern Munich's out-of-favour Javi Martinez. The midfielder has been on the fringes at the German champions over the past few months, and only made 18 Bundesliga appearances last season, four of which were from the substitutes' bench. Though Martinez is more defensively-minded than the attacking Yaya Toure, the Spain international would still offer City that tough and imposing presence in the middle of the park, and is also versatile in that he can be called upon at centre-back if required. He is contracted to Bayern until 2017, but if City lodged a sizable enough offer, and if Bayern agreed that he was surplus to requirements at the Allianz Arena, then a deal could be on the cards this summer. Squawka Stats shows that Martinez had an 89% pass accuracy last season and was also successful in 73% of his headed duels, indicating that City would be signing a tough and combative player in the style of Toure should they make a move for the Munich man.
