1. It's Naïve To Think All Can Be Rectified In January
Under the circumstances, it seems that there might well be an element of desperation behind United's actions in the January transfer market. They obviously know that they missed a big opportunity in the summer when their rivals did not, but panic buying isn't usually a strategy that goes down well. Therefore, they need to think in terms of quality rather than quantity as well as considering where they need to strengthen the squad the most. However, it's unlikely that they are going to succeed this January where they failed so miserably last summer. My concern is that Man Utd doesn't have the same pull as it used to, and I think a big reason behind that is because Ferguson is no longer the manager. It's also fair to say that Moyes isn't doing enough to suggest he is a manager that has a similar vision on attacking football as the legendary Scot. It's also very difficult to do any quality business in January, because clubs don't generally like to sell their best players halfway through the season. The danger is for clubs to buy average players at hugely inflated prices. If Man Utd do this they will fail to acquire the quality that will enable them to solve their problems.
