Man Utd: Celebrating Ryan Giggs' 23 Greatest Goals On His 40th Birthday

10. vs Newcastle, 1993

If you had to name United's best free-kick takers, your list would probably be topped by one of Cristiano Ronaldo or David Beckham. In the days before these two megastars however, free-kick duties fell to Giggs and the unfashionable Dennis Irwin. Against Newcastle, Giggs thumped in a powerful, curling free-kick and might well have taken a few more in his career, if this was anything to go by, had Beckham not popped up a year or so later.

9. vs Fulham, 2007

Giggs can score a goal with virtually any part of his body. Left foot, right foot, shin, head, this time it was with the top of his foot as he popped up on the right side to unorthodoxly splice a spinning strike into the corner of Fulham's goal in a 2-1 win for the Red Devils.

8. vs West Ham, 2009

Giggs has combined beautifully with a host of world class players before scoring his trademark goals down the years, and here it was with another club legend, Paul Scholes. After Scholes found Giggs with a typical pass that had all the qualities of a SatNav, Giggs controlled the ball, took it round Carlton Cole and Scott Parker and pinged a right-footed shot into the corner, the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win for United.

7. vs Juventus, 1997

A sign of things to come here as Giggs warned defences what he is capable of by gliding away from two defenders and thundering a finish into the roof of Juventus goalkeeper Angelo Peruzzi's net (sound familiar, David Seaman?) The goalscorers in this memorable 3-2 win that night were Teddy Sheringham, Paul Scholes and Giggs for United. Zinedine Zidane and Del Piero for Juventus. That Giggs' goal is best remembered from this game speaks volumes about the Welsh Wizard.

6. vs Barcelona, 1998

Another vintage goal from Giggs here and one that was made by David Beckham - the pair terrorizing domestic (and European) defences throughout the 1990s. That was particularly the case here as Beckham skipped past the Barca fullback to float in a trademark, pin-point cross for Giggs to nod home in a thrilling 3-3 draw with the Catalans.
