Man Utd: Celebrating Ryan Giggs' 23 Greatest Goals On His 40th Birthday

5. vs Chelsea, 2005 (League Cup)

2005 was a good year for Giggs when it came to scoring goals against Chelsea. After netting against them in the Community Shield, the Welshman struck again in the League Cup. Gary Neville drifted in an enticing cross which Giggs collected, controlled and superbly flicked over Petr Cech to bring the scores level at 1-1. Chelsea would go on to win 2-1, but at least United fans can remember this moment of quality and smile fondly.

4. vs Leeds, 2011

With United 2-0 up and cruising against Leeds in the League Cup, Giggs collected a pass on the byline, burst into the penalty area, and somehow managed to beat the goalkeeper at his near post with a truly audacious thump of his left boot to put the game beyond The Whites.

3. vs Spurs, 1992

Giggs was making a name for himself by the age of 18 - as all the world's best footballers tend to do - and showed exactly what he was capable of when he slotted in a majestic goal vs Spurs in 1992. After hitting the ball past Jason Cundy, he rounded goalkeeper Ian Walker and thumped it into an empty net to score a goal of relative simplicity, yet one that was made special by his lightning-fast speed, a trademark of his game until recent times.

2. vs Juventus, 2003

United have enjoyed many magical moments in Europe over the years, with their success over Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final being the most noteworthy example of that. This one was just as good for United though with Giggs helping his side famously defeat Juventus (again), this time 3-0 in Turin. After collecting Antonio Conte's loose ball, Giggs ran with it, and just kept on running with it, sidestepping Ciro Ferrara and Paulo Montero before slotting it into the bottom corner of Gianluigi Buffon's goal.

1. vs Arsenal, 1999

In the 1999 FA Cup semi-final replay against Arsenal, United were down to 10 men with the scores deadlocked at 1-1, staring elimination - and the end of their treble dream - in the face. That was, until Giggs skinned Patrick Vieira and Lee Dixon, left Martin Keown on his backside, and absolutely hammered the ball past David Seaman to make it 2-1 and send his side through to the final. It was a moment that encapsulated the magic of the FA Cup, but also the magic of Giggs, and became one of the most iconic moments of Ferguson's United era.
