Man Utd Transfers: 10 More Players Louis van Gaal MUST Sign Before Deadline Day
7. William Carvalho
Or perhaps United might turn to William Carvalho. Manager Louis van Gaal is desperate to sign a defensive midfielder this summer to add some much-needed steel and grit to his side and Carvalho would be another terrific addition should his move from Sporting Lisbon come to fruition before transfer deadline day. Carvalho was on David Moyes's radar shortly before he was sacked as boss in April and his successor van Gaal shares his interest in the Portuguese international who, at 6ft 1, is a tough and physically imposing midfield dynamo who can sit as a holding midfielder capable of breaking down opposition attacks in the middle of the park. There's little questioning United's need for a player of these qualities because their current midfield looks flimsy and has already been overrun a number of times by the opposition this season. The Reds need a leader in the middle of the park and the take-no-nonsense Carvalho would certainly help in this department. United have a positive relationship with Sporting having signed Marcos Rojo from them this summer before loaning Nani back to the Portuguese side, and this should hopefully smooth over any potential deal to bring Carvalho to Old Trafford.
