7. Brede Hangeland
Club: Fulham Position: Centre-half Value: £3 - 5m At times this season, United's backline has lacked experience, especially in the absence of Nemanja Vidic, and Fulham's Norwegian centre-half would seem an ideal solution, especially with uncertainty surrounding his future at Craven Cottage. His current contract runs out in June 2013, and with no new deal yet in the offing, Sir Alex could pounce to take advantage of the situation and sign him for a bargain price. At 31 years old, Hangeland might seem old, especially with United's current policy suggesting youth is the way forward, but the centre-half is exactly the sort of experienced influence Sir Alex needs to add to his back-line, which has looked shaky at times this season. he would also offer the same sort of aerial prowess that Nemanja Vidic brings to the team, possibly linking up with either Vidic or Ferdinand to form a tight centre-half partnership to rival the best in the league. Hangeland is also as strong on the floor, making key interceptions, and knowing when to tackle, and his passing success would make him the perfect fit to United's progressive style from the back. If his contract situation continues, Hangeland will attract suitors in January, and United would do well to make a move early on for a very experienced player with a very impressive injury record and the ability to play at the very top.
