Man Utd Transfers: 10 Talented Players Who Utterly Failed At Old Trafford

10. Gabriel Obertan

The French winger arrived at Old Trafford following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid - hardly an easy act to follow for any player, never mind for a relatively unknown Ligue 1 youngster with little experience. However, Obertan had bags of potential having starred for Bordeaux in the previous season before arriving at United: he was versatile enough to play on the wing, in an attacking midfield position as well as up front and possessed bags of skill and tricks with a football, just like Cristiano. Almost at least. His talent was demonstrated briefly in a red shirt, as he set up a few goals and showed his footwork ability, but he spectacularly failed to light up the wings consistently, and ultimately the former France youth player managed 14 Premier League appearances for United, with just one goal coming in the Champions League against Bursaspor. Perhaps too much pressure was thrust onto his young shoulder, but Obertan failed to become a United anything, let alone a great and moved to Newcastle United in 2011, where he fails to regularly feature in the first team to continue his Premier League woe.
