5. Ricardo Rodriguez
Matthias Schrader/AP/Press Association ImagesLike most clubs, Manchester United will likely have used this summer's World Cup as an opportunity to scout out potential players and see how certain targets perform at the highest levels, and if they have, United will undoubtedly have been impressed by Ricardo Rodriguez. The Swiss defender was one of his country's best players at the finals in Brazil and did his reputation no disservice at all by shackling the likes of Angel di Maria and Lionel Messi in the Swiss's recent 1-0 defeat to Argentina - his nation going out only after extra time following a 0-0 draw with the South American heavyweights. Still only 21, the Wolfsburg man is an extremely exciting proposition, and appears to have an promising future ahead of him in the game having already been capped by his country 22 times. Standing at just under six feet in height, Rodriguez is a tough and physical defender and is difficult to get off the ball, proving a real handful to opposing teams. However, he wouldn't come cheap. Reports say he is worth
around £18 million, and having already spent vast sums on a left-back this summer, United may well seek less expensive options.
