Man Utd vs Liverpool: 5 Reasons Why It's Unmissable

2. Fringe Players Can Shine

The League Cup has always been a place where younger and untried players can get a spot in the team and try to impress. Man Utd have several players who need to step up and a game against old rivals Liverpool might me just the game needed to prove to Moyes they are first team players.

The likes of Zaha who hasn€™t been seen since to Community Shield game or Nani who recently signed a 5 year contract are two exciting attacking talents that Utd looked to have missed over the last couple of games. Man Utd€™s midfield has been targeted lately for being weak and missing a world class playmaker since Scholes retired last year so players like Cleverley and Anderson will have to step up and fill that role.

With Robin Van Persie missing with a thigh strain so strikers like Welbeck and Hernández will be needed to score to help the team I also know Utd fans are big on their young Belgium winger Adnan Januzaj and want to see him playing. I would also expect to see current player/coach Ryan Giggs to start as captain or at least figure from off the bench.

For Liverpool it might be a little different, the game against Notts County in round two showed Liverpool are taking the League Cup seriously playing some of their top stars even in a game where they were playing a League One team at home. The lack of European football is a big factor in Liverpool playing some of their more senior players in League Cup games so I would expect the likes of Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge may feature in Wednesday.

Fringe players are not in big currency at Liverpool, they have 8 players out on loan and last Saturday against Southampton they were without any full backs through injury and illness. New signing Mamadou Sakho looks likely to play, the big French centre back has looked decent in his opening two games but a good showing against Manchester Utd will certainly endear him to the Liverpool faithful.

Maybe Liverpool will use a few youngsters, gain them some vital experience from playing in a big derby the likes of Martin Kelly and Raheem Sterling will gain a lot from playing at Old Trafford also keep your eyes out for Luis Alberto who scored a hat trick for the Liverpool U21€™s against Utd. Young Adam Morgan is a hit online for an amazing halfway line goal in a under 21€™s game so hopefully he might make the bench for the derby.
