Manchester United's Greatest 23-Man Squad Of The Premier League Era
15. Denis Irwin (Ireland, 1990-2002)
On the opposite flank to Gary Neville during the majority of the nineties was the Irish international Denis Irwin, who contributed 22 goals during his 368 appearances for the club, many of them from free kicks and penalties, of which he was a specialist.
Regarded by Sir Alex Ferguson as the 'only name he would not hesitate to include' in all time XI of players that had played under him, Irwin's long and often understated tenure on the left hand side of defence was a major contributor to many of United's early Premier League successes.
