Newcastle 1-0 Leicester: 6 Key Lessons For Pardew

6. Play Haidara At Left-Back

It's been said a lot already, but Paul Dummett should not be first-choice left-back for Newcastle based simply on where he was born. He might be local and enthusiastic, but neither of those facts make up for his poor positional play, his lack of attacking thrust or his naivety, which was shown during a torrid period in the second half. With Dummett pinned back and clearly identified as the weak link by the canny Nigel Pearson, Pardew was forced to make a change to relieve the pressure coming down the right-hand side. And when Haidara came on, Newcastle looked a different team in that position: he looks calmer, more technically gifted and stronger than Dummett in almost every aspect. And he must start next game, regardless of the imagined pressure on Pardew to play British.
