Newcastle CONFIRM Departure Of Remy Cabella To Marseille
Cabella leaves NUFC after just a solitary season on Tyneside.
Remy Cabella has completed his move from Newcastle United to Marseille as part of Florian Thauvin's transfer to the Magpies. Cabella's season-long loan is part of the £14 million deal to bring Thauvin to Tyneside, and the French playmaker flew out to Marseille on Tuesday in order to undergo his medical before signing for the Ligue 1 outfit. With an initial one-year loan agreed, Cabella will eventually move permanently for around £6.5 million if "certain conditions are met". The 25-year-old Corsican signed from Montpellier for a fee somewhere in the region of £12 million last summer to much fanfare having just scored 14 goals in 37 Ligue 1 games for the French side the previous season, yet he has departed St James Park after netting just once in 34 appearances in black and white. Cabella displayed flashes of brilliance during his time at Newcastle - including a magnificent goal at Hull City and promising displays against Chelsea and Arsenal - but all-too fleetingly. The four-cap France international was also accused of being too lightweight, and of failing to make an impact. He endured a difficult first season in the Barclays Premier League, netting just once, and he has returned to France at a loss for Newcastle. It was claimed last summer when the midfielder moved to the North East from Montpellier that Newcastle had paid £12 million for his services - at the time a record outlay of the Mike Ashley era - and they are set to recoup just two-thirds of that.
