Newcastle Transfers: 10 Players From The World Cup To Sign
10. Vedad Ibisevic - Bosnia And Herzegovina
Hipsters assemble! The first of a number of Bundesliga regulars, Ibisevic currently plies his trade for VfB Stuttgart. The scorer of a historic goal against Argentina at the Maracana on matchday one, his country Bosnia and Herzegovina's first in the World Cup, Ibisevic has built a career as a relatively prolific marksman in Germany. He first shot to prominance as the strike partner of a certain Demba Ba at Hoffenheim in the 2008-09 season, despite having a spell at Paris St Germain beforehand. In the club's first season in the top flight, he scored 18 goals in 17 games to help them to the top of the league, before a knee ligament injury during the winter break ruled in out until the end of the season. Hoffenheim finished that season sixth. He got his move to Stuttgart in January 2012 having netted 48 league goals in 123 games, and his good form has continued to this day, despite the club struggling last season, finishing one place above the relegation play-off place in 15th. During a tough season for his team, the Bosnian striker, who grew up in St Louis in the United States, scored ten vital goals to keep the underachieving club above water. After wining the league title in 2007, Stuttgart are a club that have stagnated since Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund began to reach their potential in Europe, meaning that they can't spend the money to compete anymore. He turns 30 in August so it is somewhat unlikely that Newcastle will take a punt on Ibisevic, who could be available at a good price this summer. However, with such a good record for his country, scoring 21 goals while in 56 games and playing alongside Manchester City's Edin Dzeko, the club should at least consider him as an option. At 6 foot 2, he is a man that is perfectly suited to the English game and would give an aerial presence, something the team will miss with the departure of Shola Ameobi. Given a chance, Vedad Ibisevic could be a very popular figure on Tyneside.
