the guardian, Newcastle are monitoring Liverpool's out-of-favour midfielder Jay Spearing. The Magpies are reportedly looking for someone to toughen up their midfield and Spearing, who has spent the last season out on loan at Bolton Wanderers, has been impressive for the Trotters throughout his stint at Dougie Freedman promotion-chasing side. The 24-year old has already won two player of the year awards from two different supporters' groups this season but his opportunities at Liverpool could be limited when he returns to Anfield in the summer, considering the Reds bought Philippe Coutinho in January. A move to St James' Park could be appealing if he wants to continue getting first team football.
