To begin with, Cisse's rawness was par of his charm: the goal he scored against Chelsea was the perfect example at the tail-end of his first half-season. He had no right to score that goal, and more experienced strikers might well have resisted the temptation, but Cisse swung his leg powerfully and made Petr Cech look a fool. But since then, that rawness has looked more of an issue: Cisse's decision making skills appear limited at best, and without the confidence he had to start with, that is a problem. And then of course there's the fact that he is off-side more than any other Newcastle player - or at least it seems that way. Last year Loic Remy was offside a good deal, but he was offside for the same reasons that Craig Bellamy used to be: enterprise leading to over-enthusiasm. Cisse meanwhile seems never to be aware of the position of the back line he is supposed to be aware of at all times: it's not that he runs too early, nor that the back-line step up and catch him out, it's that his starting position is all too often in an offside position, and that is hugely frustrating for a striker of his experience.
