Newcastle Transfers: 5 Reasons Pardew MUST Go Back In For Remy

5. Demba Ba

It might be somewhat silly to suggest gambling with such vast sums of money, but Newcastle know all about those big stakes, having ignored the seemingly over-zealous assessment of Stoke's medical staff that Demba Ba had a knee like an unexploded bomb. The condition, which didn't stop either West Ham or the Magpies bringing him in and benefitting from his goals, might well have lead to the transfer release clause set in his contract, but it didn't impact his presence on the pitch half as much as being shifted out wide. The lesson? Medicals at other clubs aren't always right, and assessments aren't always as catastrophic as immediately suggested. And in addition to that, Newcastle also gambled on the capture of Sylvain Marveaux, who reportedly failed a medical at Liverpool before joining the North East side. That signing might not have worked out as well as Ba's short-lived spell on Tyneside, but it wasn't just down to injuries (with attitude and fitness cited as the chief reasons for Marveaux's failure at St. James Park). Could they do it again and see similar benefits to when they showed Stoke's medical assessment of the Senegalese striker up?
