Newcastle Transfers: 5 Replacements For Fabricio Coloccini

1. Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa

Mbiwa Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa was linked with a move away from Montpellier last summer with Newcastle, Arsenal and Italian side AC Milan all thought to be interested. The Frenchman refused a contract extension with the Lige 1 outfit and his current deal with the club is set to expire in June this year. Montpellier rejected a £4.8million offer from AC Milan for the player last summer, and the player snubbed interest from Arsenal. Newcastle made a tentative approach about his availability but were deterred by the club's asking price. However, now that Demba Ba has been sold to Chelsea, Alan Pardew has at least £7.5 million to spend, and could be tempted to go in with an offer this month. Much like Douglas, Mbiwa is free to talk to and sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club now that he has entered the final 6 months of his current deal, meaning Pardew really has little excuse not to make at least a tentative approach for his services.
