1. Mathieu Valbuena
Mathieu Valbuena could be on his way to St James' Park this summer following reports that the midfielder is facing something of an uncertain future at current club Marseille. Marseille's qualification for European football this season automatically triggered a one-year extension in the 28-year-old's contract, however, the player has been keen to stress that does
not necessarily mean he has to stay. Valbuena is a creative and attack-minded midfielder who scored 5 times last season and provided 14 assists for his teammates, and has been lined up by Alan Pardew as a replacement for Cabaye. Valbuena fits Pardew's blueprint when it comes to buying in new recruits - should he link up with Newcastle's continental revolution, he would become the twelfth Frenchman at St James' Park and a signing that would make a lot of sense in those regards. Upon completion of this report, news broke that Newcastle
rejected Arsenal's bid. It is unclear if the Gunners will come back in with a fresh offer at this stage.
