4. Mathieu Valbuena

Given the on-going Yohan Cabaye saga that has seen the France international subjected to a £10 million bid from Arsenal and then go on strike when it was rejected, it's fair to say the Magpies need a new midfielder. And one option available to Pardew should he be seeking a replacement is Marseille's Mathieu Valbuena. Valbuena fits Pardew's blueprint when it comes to transfer policy and would become just the latest in a rapidly-expanding contingent of French-speaking internationals at St James' Park as the North East club continue to go continental. The former Libourne man has been with Marseille for the last seven years of his career and could be seeking a change of scenery, while the 28-year-old recently
opened the door to a move to Newcastle. Arsenal have been on his tail in the past, after the playmaker enjoyed a successful Ligue 1 campaign last season that saw him net three goals and provide 11 assists.
