2. Andre-Pierre Gignac

Despite the arrival of Loic Remy on a 12-month loan deal from QPR and the continued presence of last season's joint-top goalscorer Papiss Cisse, manager Alan Pardew still
wants a new striker this summer. And, of course, he's almost certainly going to be French. The Magpies have been chasing Marseille's Andre-Pierre Gignac for much of the summer with the move looking off-again-on-again at various intervals. But Pardew is refusing to give up the ghost despite Gignac reportedly dismissing the prospect of joining the North East side after rumours of a £12 million bid. The 27-year-old was holding out on a move to a "bigger club" with Everton also interested but with the Toffee's yet to make their interest formal, the Magpies feel they have a chance of completing a deal. Gignac scored 13 Ligue 1 goals last season and has been on Manchester United's radar in the past.
