Newcastle Transfers: 5 Signings Alan Pardew Needs To Make To Avoid Disaster

1. Jermain Defoe

Jermain Defoe could be the "marquee signing" Alan Pardew is looking for this summer having missed out on prime targets Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bafétimbi Gomis. The England international looks set to leave Tottenham following manager Andre Villas-Boas' huge spending spree that has taken in the arrival of Valencia striker Roberto Soldado and the attempt to sign Roma forward Erik Lamela. It's unlikely that Defoe will get much playing time this season if he sticks around at White Hart Lane and has been touted with a move to relegated QPR as well at Stoke City. However, the prospect of playing for a club the size of Newcastle could be enticing and certainly a better option than dropping down a division into the Championship, especially in a World Cup year. Newcastle's interest in Defoe is a long-standing one that dates back to 2011 back when Villas-Boas first started looking for a replacement for the former West Ham man. Do you think Newcastle are heading for a crisis? Who does Alan Pardew have to sign? Let us know in the comment section, below.
