Newcastle Transfers: 5 Strikers Pardew Must Sign To Save The Summer

2. Loic Remy

I put Loic Remy in this list with some hesitation. On the pitch, everything points to the sort of player you want in a Premier League signing, and so does the price. However off it, there are issues. Strong, fast and with goals in him, Remy was one of the few players who shone for QPR last season, putting some his team mates to shame (that wasn€™t hard though when playing with Jose Bosingwa.) His return of 6 goals in 14 is solid enough for a team finishing dead last with a whimper. His goal against Wigan is certainly worth a look! So what€™s the down side then? Scores goals, available on the cheap according to The Mirror and just 26. Well there are issues with any attempt to sign Remy. There is an impending court case to think about, and Newcastle only need to think of Joey Barton to realise how bad it can be to have a player jailed. There is also the issue that he rejected the club in January. Newcastle seemed to have the deal all wrapped up when QPR€™s money came calling and he chose a team destined for the second tier, playing in front of less than 20,000 over a team playing in front of 52,000 in the top flight. Is that the sort of player Newcastle really want? The Express are now reporting a loan deal could be in the offing for the Frenchmen, an agreement which could satisfy both sides. Remy's wages are huge and would provide Newcastle with security if there are any legal issues. It€™s a difficult call. At the right price, Remy could be a great coup for any club but all negotiations must be made with the court case in mind and whether his attitude is right. I suppose if he€™s scoring goals none of this matters and with the minutes ticking down on the transfer window, beggars can€™t be choosers€
