1. James McCarthy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCxji7TyAQU An emerging story in recent weeks has been Newcastles interest in Wigans central midfield James McCarthy.
The Independent have reported that Newcastle have lined up a bid for McCarthy, 22. He is highly rated in footballing circles and seen as far too talented for the Championship. A sticking point though could be the fact Wigan value the Irishman at £15 million. A deal taking place could hinge on Wigan being willing to negotiate and how much Newcastle are willing to pay.
McCarthy signed for Wigan from Hamilton back in 2009 for just £1.2 million and has become a key part of the Latics side making over a hundred appearances for the side. McCarthys talent has been clear to anyone watching the Premier League over the last few years but Wigan are obviously reluctant to let him go without a fight or without getting a great price. Newcastle struggled in the middle of the park last year with Cheick Tiote having a very poor season, Yohan Cabaye blowing hot and cold at times
as well as being unsettled, and Moussa Sissoko starting well before fading. Some fresh legs could be just what is needed, adding a bit of competition could force the current crop to up their game and push the team on. Who do you think Newcastle should sign? What areas need reinforcing the most? Thoughts welcome below.
