Newcastle Transfers: Unwanted Cabaye Wouldn't Suit Pardew's System

Sissoko is now the key.

There's news today in France that Yohan Cabaye has been told he's unwanted at PSG by former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf, who has responded to the former Magpies midfielder's poor performances for the Parisiens by saying he made a mistake in moving in the first place. Cabaye started just his second league game since September on Saturday away at Lorient, and astonishingly was rated the worst player on the pitch by newspaper reports - which has happened before. Though his side won, Cabaye was hauled off after the hour mark, having done very little: inevitably, his replacement set up the winner. Despite his torrid time in France, Cabaye is still deemed a key part of the international set-up, and will play a significant role in the Euro Championships in 2016, barring a continued run of abject form. Leboeuf appeared on Téléfoot Sunday to talk through Cabaye's predicament, blaming his lack of progress on the fact that Laurent Blanc doesn't see him as a first-team option, despite shelling out to buy him:
€œI think Yohan Cabaye has never been part of Laurent Blanc€™s first choice team. When he (Cabaye) arrived, there was already Motta, Matuidi and Verratti installed.€
PSG are now said to be lining up a big money move for Paul Pogba in the very near future, and are expected to clear their lines a bit, with Chantome and Cabaye the most likely to be moved on, especially since youngster Adrien Rabiot has just agreed a new contract. Leboeuf says moving on from Newcastle was a mistake:
€œFor me it is a mistake on his part. He must think about the French team and losing the confidence he accumulated in Newcastle. He will have to ask the right questions about his future and think about it starting this winter or in the summer.€
The issue for those fans wanting to bring him back to Newcastle is that he wouldn't suit the current system Alan Pardew is playing. He wouldn't be likely to play in either of the holding defensive midfield roles, as he likes to stray too far, and playing him as the breaking attacker (which Sissoko is doing so well now) wouldn't work as he tends to hang back a bit more. To accommodate him, Pardew would have to change his system again, and though that's right for the right player, doing so for someone who is likely to cost £15m (PSG might not want him, but they're not idiots) probably isn't going to be top of Mike Ashley's agenda. Should Newcastle do all they can to bring Cabaye back to Tyneside? Share your thoughts below.
