Newcastle Transfers: 5 Areas Alan Pardew Needs To Strengthen

1. Striker

Newcastle have two exceptional strikers in the shape of Senegalese duo Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse, who will score goals against any and all opposition next season (until they possibly head to the African Cup of Nations, depending on qualification), and Hatem Ben Arfa can probably be added to the pool of available forwards, thanks to Pardew's preference for a 433 system for a good deal of last season. But beyond those three, Newcastle only have Shola Ameobi (who is a reasonable option off the bench, but cannot be counted on to play a whole game) and troubled youngster Nile Ranger on the books as back-up for the first teamers. If Demba Ba does choose to leave in this window, the situation will be made an awful lot worse, especially with first option Luuk de Jong seemingly not interested in joining the Toon (and his club currently outpricing any deal). With Europa League set to ask a lot more of the squad this coming season, and with two strikers now gone after Peter Lovenkrands left on a free and Leon Best was sold to Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle arguably need two new strikers to fill out the ranks. They definitely need one, at the very least, and Graham Carr is said to be busy making his money at the minute looking for more options, as well as pursuing Newcastle's Plan B option, who as yet remains unnamed (unless it turns out to be Man City's Swedish youngster John Guidetti). What do you think Newcastle fans - do you agree that Pardew needs to consider strengthening in these areas? Who might fit the bill? And which other players would you like to see brought in?
