Newcastle United Transfer News: Leon Best Joins Blackburn For £3 Million

The 25-year-old Irishman has signed a four-year deal at Ewood Park after undergoing a medical this afternoon.

Blackburn Rovers have signed Newcastle United striker Leon Best in a deal reportedly worth more than £3 million. The 25-year-old Irishman has signed a four-year deal at Ewood Park after undergoing a medical this afternoon, a deal which will keep him at the Championship club until 2016. Blackburn confirmed the deal on Monday evening with a statement on the club's official website;
"Blackburn Rovers have this evening completed the signing of Leon Best from Newcastle United. "The 25-year-old striker makes the move from the North East to the North West for a fee of more than £3m, signing a four-year deal."
Best scored 10 goals in 46 appearances at Newcastle since joining the club from Coventry in January 2010. He was deemed as surplus to requirements at Newcastle after finding himself dropping down the pecking order with the arrival of Senegalese international Papiss Cisse and he too often struggled to hit the back of the net on a consistent basis at Newcastle. He found it much easier to get the goals during his Championship spell at Coventry and Rovers boss Steve Keen will be hoping he recaptures that form to fill the void created by Yakubu's departure to China last week.
