Newcastle vs Man Utd: 5 Classic Toon Moments No Geordie Will Ever Forget

1. "Here They Are Looking For Number Five With Philippe Albert"

The single most exciting goal most Newcastle fans of my generation have witnessed, thanks to the importance of the occasion, as well as the nature of the goal, and who scored it, this fifth goal in the infamous "Howay 5 Oh" victory in 1996 was the irresistible cherry on the top of a particularly delicious cake. Before Albert confirmed his status as a Geordie hero - which continues today for good reason - there had been goals by Darren Peacock, David Ginola, Les Ferdinand and Alan Shearer (of course), and the crowd were in full party mode, scripting the post-game jokes that would continue at Peter Schmeichel's expense. And then as the ball came to centre-half Albert, who always had a taste for attacking and remains one of the finest foreign imports ever to grace these shores, and the big man took a touch forward, everything got that little bit better. The defender deftly chipped the ball over an embarrassingly flat-footed Schmeichel, to the accompanying tune of that excellent line of commentary quoted above to seal Man United's fate, jubilantly wheeling away. And the best part was, not one person in that ground could have been surprised that that skill could come from Albert, no matter how magical it still looks today... http://youtu.be/dK4wFKYtipo If the Newcastle players ever need inspiration to beat a big opponent - that video should be played over and over. Newcastle United vs Manchester United kicks off at 4pm, live on Sky Sports 1.
