In February 2013 Jonas Gutierrez played his part in what was a famous victory for the Tyneside club, as they defeated Champions League winners Chelsea at St. James Park. Gutierrez gave Newcastle the lead four minutes before the interval with his head to send the stadium into raptures, a goal that proved to be one of the most important of his time at Newcastle and one which will go down in history. Goals from Juan Mata and Frank Lampard gave Chelsea the lead afterwards before double from Sissoko secured the points for Newcastle. The victory was castle important to Gutierrez' side as it signalled their first back-to-back victories since April the previous year and moved them a comfortable eight points ahead of the drop zone. For Newcastle to achieve such a victory against the European Champions was a big surprise across the country and it will be remembered forevermore in Newcastle. Gutierrez played his part in the victory and will go down as the player that scored the opening goal on that famous day.
