NUFC Plan Pre-Season Tour To USA

Reports in the US claim Magpies will play Lyon and Raja Casablanca in a Texas tournament.

Newcastle United still have four games remaining in which to save their Premier League status - yet the club has already made preliminary plans to play a pre-season tournament in the USA. Media reports in North America claim that the Magpies will play three games in a tournament in Texas in the middle of July. Their group contains Ligue 1 side Lyon and Moroccan club Raja Casablanca, with their third match against as-of-yet unconfirmed opponents. Head coach John Carver has remained coy in recent weeks when asked about the Magpies' pre-season plans, but these leaked reports suggest Newcastle will be heading Stateside - to Dallas.
Their match with Lyon is scheduled to be played on July 11th, with their clash with Raja Casablanca due for three days later, while their final fixture in the tournament will be on either the 18th or 19th - depending on where they finish in the group. Games will be played at either the Cotton Bowl or Toyota Stadium - to be confirmed at a later date - and would likely be the first part of Newcastle's pre-season tour. However, fans hoping to follow the Magpies' pre-season tour are advised to wait until details are confirmed by the club. First of all, if Newcastle are relegated they would be highly unlikely to schedule a pre-season tour to America. Also, the club has changed plans of its pre-season tours in the past. Fellow Premier League side Swansea City will also appear in the tournament, although they are in the other group alongside La Liga's Malaga and Mexican club Pachuca.
