Paul Scholes Out Of Retirement, On Bench Against Man City

Paul Scholes has come out of retirement and will start on the bench for Manchester United against Manchester City in today's FA Cup 3rd Round tie, which is live on ITV1. The 37-year-old had retired after the 2010/11 and had taken up a coaching role at United, following a career which started in 1994. Injuries, however, to Sir Alex Ferguson's squad have left him with little cover for a midfield who have struggled in recent weeks. The centre partnership of Giggs and Carrick were completely out-played away at Newcastle in the 3-0 defeat, while there was little creativity against Blackburn when losing 3-2 at Old Trafford. Alex Ferguson said: "It is fantastic that Paul has made this decision. It is terrific to have him back". Scholes meanwhile added "I'm delighted the manager feels I can still make a contribution to the team". Paul Scholes has signed a deal which will see him remain a Manchester United player until the end of the current season. He will wear the number 22 shirt, after his previous number 18 has been taken by Ashley Young. Scholes is 14/1 with Paddy Power to come off the bench to score the last goal of the game.
