Okay, this is probably the most outlandish of the lot but hear me out. All managers need some time to settle and Roberto Martinez is not only coming into this job filling the shoes of one of the most respected managers in English football, but is also doing so on the back of a very up-and-down season with Wigan Athletic. His only transfer activities thusfar have been former players Joel Robles, Arouna Kone and Antolin Alcaraz, and call me cynical but these aren't the sort of signings that are setting the world alight. Last season, Everton finished in a highly creditible sixth place and, if it wasn't for Martinez' FA Cup success, he would be coming into his new job with the stresses and strains of Europa League football. As stated before, Moyes did such a good job with so little in his tenure at Everton that his replacement would have one of the toughest jobs in world football. With the likes of Fellaini and Baines linked with moves away, Everton's squad may weaken come September 2nd. If they can hang onto this crucial pair then Martinez' job could be a whole lot easier. If the new Everton boss has no choice but to sell Fellaini and Baines, he should do so as soon as possible in order to find adequate replacements. He should also look to get around £40 million combined and use a similar mantra to his precedent, signing untouted talent for cheap and building them up in a similar way to Moyes' signings of Pienaar, Jagielka and Arteta. If Martinez strays away from merely signing Wigan's current talent and holds onto Baines and Fellaini, his fate could be very different to what I've predicted. Despite this I believe a mid-table finish may be a more realistic outcome than the success that Moyes was able to have with the squad he built single-handedly. Look for a solid FA Cup run, however.
